Family

Ross Williams has its own matrimonial/family department. We are members of the Solicitors Family Law Association which encourages everyone to agree that divorces, separations and family disputes are not contests in which there are winners and losers but are searches for fair solutions.

We recognise that you may need time to come to terms with your new situation and will help to achieve a constructive settlement of your differences as quickly as may be reasonable for you. We will, however, take immediate and decisive action when required but our approach is we hope firm and fair.

We encourage clients and other family members to regard the welfare of any children as the most important consideration and will try to promote co-operation between parents in decisions concerning children.

The Law Society recommends that all solicitors dealing with family work should follow the SFLA Code of Practice, a copy of which can be supplied upon request. By dealing with matters in a way, which helps to preserve your dignity, encourages agreement and avoids unnecessary litigation, you are more likely to arrive at a satisfactory solution at least in terms of cost, emotionally and financially. We deal with all aspects of family law including divorce and separation, children's disputes, financial matters, public law and care proceedings and cohabitant disputes.

familylawyersNeil Donald is a member of the Law Society's Family Law Panel. This is an accreditation scheme for lawyers who have demonstrated their experience and knowledge in handling the delicate complexities of divorce and separation. It was launched on the 28th January 1999.

l-aidYou may well be eligible for Legal Help under the Community Legal Services (CLS) Scheme in relation to divorce and preliminary matters. If matters are more prolonged but are likely to be settled by consent, then General Family Help may be available. If Court action is required, then Legal Representation is available. We have a Community Legal Services Franchise, which is a quality assurance standard provided by the CLS in the area of Family Law.

All Applications for CLS Funding for General Family Help or Legal Representation are subject to your attending a mandatory Intake Session to ascertain whether Mediation is appropriate. If not, your Application for CLS Funding may proceed. If Mediation is appropriate then limited funding is available for help with Mediation.

Private clients will be charged on the amount of work that needs to be undertaken on their behalf, full details of which can be given on request.
